General Safety Tips:

Fire Prevention

  • test your smoke detector/alarms to make sure they are working

  • make sure everyone staying in your home know fire escape plans

  • pay close attention to food on the stove and NEVER leave it unattended

  • blow out all candles before leaving your home

Holiday Fire Prevention

  • keep the Christmas tree away from any exits and heat sources

  • turn off Christmas lights before leaving your home or going to bed

  • keep your Chrismas tree watered to prevent it from drying out

Motor Vehicle Safety

  • Buckle up on every ride and use caution during the holiday rush

Firearms Injury Prevention

  • Keep any guns in your home keep it unloaded and locked away at all times

  • store bullets in a seperate locked location than the firearm

  • always keep them away and out of sight of children

Bike and Pedestrian Safety

  • Wear retroreflective clothing or put retroreflective tape on clothing to be more visible

  • Avoid walking at dusk or night as you are harder to see

  • Walk on sidewalks whenever possible or on the left side of the road so you can observe any on coming traffic

  • Young children should always be supervised and never cross streets alone

Poisoning Prevention

  • Keep all household cleaners, medicines, and vitamins stored out of sight and reach of children

  • place the local poison control number near telephones

  • consider installing carbon-monoxide detectors

  • Slow down and pull over to the right side of the road. Remember not to panic and allow the fire engine to pass
